Suspended aviation

The deal at 3pm, one hour before the scheduled time of take-off, was that the flight would be delayed indefinitely, probably for 2 hours. Then at 4pm, they said that it'll be coming at 6.35pm. There was a thick haze around Beijing and all flights were redirected to Shanghai, and that's where our plane was at the moment. A bit later… ah, good news. It'll be 6.15pm instead. Then a few minutes later, they said that it would only be leaving Shanghai in 10 minutes. It'll be in Beijing at 7.15pm. Or so they said. As it stands a few minutes ago, it was 8.15pm. I checked; 82% of all flights scheduled to depart Beijing from between 1500-1800 hours have been delayed, so what we will be seeing is a massive queue – and jam – for arrival and take-off from the airport. There is no knowing when we will see our plane, and even then goodness knows how long it'll take for it to be able to get off the ground. Suddenly I feel a little like Tom Hanks in The Terminal… if only it would be as fun. The worse is that we can't get back out since we've already been through border control so officially, we're outta China and we can't go in again (and Singapore has us listed as overseas so we're nowhere!). Of all airports to be stranded in, Beijing Int'l Airport must be one of the worse. There's nothing here, and it's a surprise that I can get into my blog since so many sites are blocked… even BBC news.

Rrright… now they say it's gonna be 9.15pm, and my parents are trying to argue their way to get out of here so's we can at least get some proper sleep and [attempt to] fly again another day.

Sigh…It seems like everywhere there is ‘indefinate’ delays! Sigh…! Well, here in London, people can’t take on any hand luggage and all. Travelled by the picadilly line as usual from Acton Town – the tube from Heathrow was empty. Sigh, its a long day for everyone! Hang in there!

yeah, the typhoon and thick haze around the region!

in the end we were stuck in the plane while waiting for those planes in front to take off. it seemed like forever…

got back the next morning, very tired. it’s amazing how drained out one can be from doing nothing but waiting.

Waiting to fly back to Heathrow from Geneva was a right pain. An account can be found on my blog. Too tired to re-type why.
