I decided not to go to the SingSoc OGM yesterday. There’s been too much work to do, and my seminar group has – by a majority vote – opted to shift tomorrow’s seminar session from 4pm to 9am… which means that we have 7 hours less with which to work our individual presentations and we don’t get to have a lie-in. Aside from being able to have an earlier start to the weekend, I can’t see the wisdom in that decision!
Went to Baden Powell House late yest afternoon to meet an officer from the Scouts. I remember calling them up in my first year, asking if I could join… but somehow or another I never quite got down to doing it. It’s hard to let go of something which has been such a big part of my life – been in the Brownies, then the Guides in S’pore and in Australia – so since there’s a Scout Group right across the road, I thought I’d do something. I know I’d regret if I didn’t take this opportunity to do some Scouting in its homeland. Had a semi-chat-interview, and as soon as the paperwork is done and my background checked etc., I might be getting my provisional warrant soon. If I join as leader, all it’ll need is an hour every week during regular meetings, and the odd training sessions here and there. If I set aside the Union, then I should have the time for this.
